Bridal Beauty

As a bride you want to look beautiful on your wedding day. It’s a day where everyone will be looking at you, taking photos and telling you they wished they looked as amazing as you.

The key to being the perfect blushing bride is easy and there’s no need to spend a fortune, although many people would prefer to leave their wedding make-up to the professionals.

Most brides favour the natural look for their special day, as they want to look classically pretty, without overdoing the make-up.

In the pink:
As a bride you may be dieting for your wedding, but make sure you’re eating healthily so you don’t look gaunt in your pictures and try to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day. The secret to good skin is to drink plenty of water and cut out sugary drinks, alcohol and caffeine.

You may also be stressed before the wedding, but take some time out of wedding planning to relax – you don’t want to make yourself ill. Ensure that you’re getting enough sleep each night and try to go for a walk in the fresh air several times a week. Consider going to a spa with a friend, or combine it with your hen night and get yourself pampered.

Beauty is only skin deep:
Before you even think about putting make-up on your face, you should get yourself prepared. Try to get into a routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising your face at least one month before your wedding. This will make your skin soft and look in much better condition.

You could also consider getting a facial, although don’t do this too close to your special day as detoxifying substances could cause your skin to break out. If your skin is prone to spots, speak to your doctor who may be able to prescribe a course of antibiotics to help you stay blemish free for your wedding photographs.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder:
Don’t leave your face to the last minute. If you’re doing your own make-up, practise before the wedding. Wear something of a similar colour to your wedding dress and check the look is right for daytime and evening. Use make-up you’ve tried before as you don’t want an allergic reaction to a new lipstick or foundation.

If you’re having your make-up done professionally, have a trial beforehand and speak to your stylist about what sort of look you’re going for. Don’t be afraid to say you don’t like it – this is your wedding day, so it’s important that you feel comfortable and happy. Department stores often offer free make-up consultations so you can also speak to the beauticians there to get another opinion.

Blushing bride:
One of the most important things to remember about wedding make-up is that it’ll be a long day, possibly hot and emotional. To avoid panda eyes, invest in a good waterproof mascara or have your eyelashes tinted or dyed. You can always emphasise the length of lashes with clear mascara, but this won’t show if you do get a bit teary when you’re saying your vows.

You also need to choose a long-lasting lipstick that won’t come off easily during the toasts, the wedding breakfast and of course, the first kiss. If you’re worried about getting lipstick all over the groom’s face, tuck a handkerchief into your bouquet just in case so you can wipe it off.
