Elegantly ‘Waisted’: Britons Like Their Bellies Flat
Despite the much-debated controversies surrounding breast implants, it seems that Britons have not lost faith in the benefits of cosmetic surgery, according to the most recent plastic surgery statistics released by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). While choosing a London liposuction clinic is apparently a common choice for Britons who wish to keep their bellies flat, the BAAPS also reports that the most impressive increase was recorded with regards to male tummy tucks.
The BAAPS statistics shows that not a single cosmetic surgery procedure decreased in demand in 2011, with breast augmentation continuing to hold its place as the most common procedure of them all. The BAAPS also notes that for the first time, the audit included fat transfer procedures, which ranked eighth and sixth in popularity for women and men, respectively. Fat transfer, which can also be a treatment option at a London liposuction clinic, involves taking fat from one part of the body and injecting it elsewhere.
And yet, despite the dominance of breast augmentation in terms of popularity, the BAAPS notes that the most impressive stats were recorded in male tummy tucks which increased by 15 percent in 2011. A tummy tuck, or to use the official terms, abdominoplasty, involves the removal of excess skin as well as fatty tissue from above the bikini line. It is often a solution to drastic weight loss having left sagging skin around one’s abdominal area.
And while a tummy tuck tightens loose skin, leaving the stomach flatter, the other popular “shortcut” to a better looking abdominal area is liposuction, with the BAAPS statistics showing that liposuction went up 6.3 percent in 2011, remaining among the most common cosmetic surgery procedures for both men and women in the UK. According to Fazel Fatah, consultant plastic surgeon and President of the BAAPS, the popularity of liposuction and tummy tucks is not surprising, since there has been an increase in obesity treatments leaving patients with a lot of loose skin causing physical problems and unsightly body contours which can only be resolved by means of surgery.
The other reason behind the popularity of both tummy tucks and liposuction in the UK is perhaps the advancement in techniques, which has made those procedures much safer and has significantly reduced the time needed for recovery. Nowadays, it has become quite common for Britons to visit a London liposuction clinic for a fat removal procedure without the need for an overnight stay at the clinic in question.
In addition, as noted by Fox Business in a recent article, patients undergoing cosmetic liposuction or abdominoplasty procedures report significant improvement in self-esteem and quality of life, according to a study in a recent issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The report indicated that 86 percent of the people who had undergone the procedure were happier after the surgery. Although this particular statistics refers to the United States, perhaps an equivalent survey among British abdominoplasty and liposuction patients would show similar results, considering the popularity of both procedures in the UK.
Although every case is different when it comes to plastic surgery, if you have been considering a tummy tuck or a visit to a London liposuction clinic for a fat removal procedure of the abdominal area, as it seems, you are definitely not alone in your quest to a better looking belly.
