How Do You Spend Your 4th Of July?

As Americans we take great pride in our 4th of July celebrations. Independence Day is a time for friends and family to gather and commemorate the crowning achievements and anniversary of this blessed country that we live in. Kids running around playing, adults lounging on the patio talking and laughing, playing with our pets, and remembering those who are the reason why we have this special national holiday in the first place are all things that can make this 4th of July a special one.

Many of us kick off the day’s events with an All-American lunch that includes hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and other favorites. Throughout the day we may snack on popcorn, chips, pretzels, and cookies and listen to such blasts from the past with music favorites such as “The Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful”. Some fun activities you can do include decorating rice crispy treats red, white, and blue with stars or creating a collage symbolizing your pride to be an American with coloring pages. More activities that appeal to the masses include watching a 4th of July parade and seeing both veterans and current members of the military, army, and navy so proudly marching or participating in city events that may be held. Those who enjoy summertime activities like to celebrate the holiday by going camping, hiking, biking, or fishing. Others enjoy heading out to the surrounding lakes and spend the day with the family playing in the water on their boats and on the beach.

The finale to the night, and a highlight for most people, is watching fireworks or lighting them off. Whether you are watching a large show of fireworks or even if you just have sparklers and poppers, it wouldn’t be a great 4th of July celebration without fireworks would it? The 4th of July is often a day for all of us to remember and enjoy. If you will be spending this celebratory day with a veteran, it is wonderful to watch their faces light up as they express their pride for the country they live in and for the troops who have served, and are currently serving, our country. No matter how you choose to celebrate this 4th of July, have fun; be safe, smart, and responsible. Most importantly, don’t forget why we have this holiday and remember all of the very important people who made this holiday even possible.
