How To Improve Safety In The Construction Industry

Careful planning is an important aspect in being able to perform a job to the best of your abilities. People that work in the construction industry don’t take the time to plan their work properly, and there is a good chance of failing which could lead to other things such as death or injury.

Proper tools and equipment

Working with proper tools and equipment in the construction industry are very important. Many job areas within the construction industry i.e. scaffolders, builders and tillers (to a name a few) often will be in an accident by either tripping or using the wrong equipment which could be fatal. An example of this could be if workers decide to save time by only using a ladder when they should be using scaffolding. Like with stepladders and ladders they are equipment that hasn’t been used most of the times for workers working at height. Equipment training needs to take place with workers that will be using them so accidents can be avoided.

With an effective planning system in place there will always be areas of risk that needs to be identified and goals that can be set to make further improvement.

This can include the selecting of equipment that contains trip hazards for example and prevent them from occurring. Try and get workers more involved in the organization so that they can be more committed in reducing risks. This helps involve people get more responsibilities and ensure the areas are been kept safe at all times, thus making sure everyone know who are responsible for each allocated area.

Regular maintenance

Always keep records of all cleaning or maintenance work by encouraging and controlling safety as well as excellent health.  You need to try monitoring and reviewing all of this by making sure you have at all times an accident log and examine this on an ongoing basis to learn more about incidents that have occurred.

5 steps when dealing with risk management:

  1. Always look for uneven floors or areas that are very slippery around the workplace.
  2. You need to decide who might potentially be harmed and how this happened.
  3. At all times consider the risks and precautions when dealing with risks.
  4. You need to record all your findings if you have more than 5 employees.
  5. Assessment need to be reviewed on a regular basis if any changes do take place.
