Makeup With Sun Protection

Afraid of getting sun-caused wrinkles and skin cancer, many women are dedicated to their sunscreen routines. The problem is, wearing it with makeup makes the skin look like a glazed donut. The availability of makeup infused with sunscreen has become a convenience for women today. They packed their cosmetic bags full of makeup with Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The question is what would be more reasonable – wear makeup and sunscreen separately? Wear makeup with sunscreen alone? Or wear plain makeup only?

Admittedly, women sometimes leave out the sunscreen with so many makeups offering SPF. Using them becomes tempting instead of putting on sunscreen altogether. Experts explain that it would be a mistake to give in to that temptation. It would take seven times the normal amount of foundation to be used and 14 times the normal amount of powder to get the right amount of SPF. Makeup simply does not provide enough protection from the sun.

To keep the skin healthy, here are some tips from the experts.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, use a moisturizer with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. It has the proper components that can block UVB and UVA rays, both harmful to the skin at large amounts. It also has to have at least 15 SPF rating. Moisturizer ingredients such as ecamsule (Mexoryl), avobenzone, or zinc oxide, when combined with avobenzone and octocrylene would be best used with makeup.

To apply moisturizer, use a thin, even coat for the neck and face. Apply it on the ears as well as at any time of the day, it would be exposed to the sun. Allow the sunscreen to soak into the skin before applying makeup. Let it stand for a few minutes or so. When applying sunscreen on these areas, it is best to use the fingers instead of a brush for even distribution. If necessary too, or in case the eyes experiences a burning sensation after application of the sunscreen, use an SPF eye cream.

After applying the sunscreen moisturizer, apply foundation with SPF15 or higher. Use an oil-free foundation for regular makeup. Tinted moisturizer is also good if using a foundation is not preferred. Then, to top everything off, apply compressed powder with SPF. It would be able to hold the moisturizer and sunscreen and place. And of course, it is equally important to apply an SPF lipstick, lip balm, or lip gloss. Opaque shades are the best for sun protection instead of high-gloss lipstick.

Keeping women’s cosmetic bags filled with these makeups for sun protection is not the only answer to protecting the skin from harmful UVB and UVA rays. It is also important to stick to the routine and reapply sunscreen at any point of the day when necessary. UVB and UVA rays pass through glass, so it’s really important to get as much protection.
