Man Food: Recipes That No Man Should Ever Get Wrong

Rise of the Foodies

Do not get me wrong, although this article is poking fun at men who cannot or are unwilling to learn how to cook, there are an awful lot more male “foodies” today then there was even 10 years ago. Alongside the rise of the metrosexual, so male attitudes towards food have changed, too.

Of course, there are also a lot of men who still stick to their basic cooking principles and are zen masters of around four recipes. We have discounted the really easy stuff, such as beans, or anything else for that matter, on toast, or the awful ready meals that are eaten by those who use “working long hours” as an excuse to be even lazier with their food habits.

What are the most common “man foods” widely eaten by (usually single) men today?

Spaghetti Bolognese

You could probably swap this for anything pasta based, but all men love a Spaghetti Bolognese or something similar. It justifies them and makes them feel like they are Jamie Oliver, when in reality it is one of the easiest recipes in the world. Even still, chopping up some organic carrots and mushrooms to add to a recipe leave men everywhere claiming to be masters of fresh food and healthy recipes.

Steak

Whether it is cheap frying steak or something more premium such as a sirloin or fillet, there are fewer things more common to a man who lives alone than buying steak for dinner. For every man who actually enjoys eating his steak rare, there is another who actually knows no other way as he is so impatient and struggles to use the grill or any other cooking implement.

You know a man is a true steak lover when you look in his freezer and see chips, onion rings, and other easy to throw in the oven items to accompany the main dish.

Soup Experiments

Although we would never consider soup a recipe in itself, men take great pride in adding things to soup and then passing it off as a recipe all of their own. I have lost count of the amount of men I have met who took such pride in the fact that they believe they were the first ones to cut up ham and mix it up with celery soup.

Basic super noodles with chicken soup is another favourite: as if no-one had thought of that before!
