Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil has always been a strong franchise. Creating a steady stream of top quality games all following a rich story and a host of diverse characters.

Resident Evil 6 looks set to be much of the same. There has been videos and screen shots flying around the internet that have got me very excited; original zombies, new (and old) characters. All of this is looking like a lovely cinematic package.

It has been set for release in early October, and the nice people at Capcom have created a few different ways of spending your hard earned cash. Of course you could go for the standard game, no hassle and usual price. However, if you are feeling a little more adventurous then you can always part with a little over £100 and you will receive a few extra goodies. This Collector’s Edition includes; a Tall Oaks hoodie, a Zombie steel book, and Artwork book, Army patches and a few more little pieces all wrapped up in a limited edition box. Personally, I believe there is just enough in there to merit the spend. Being a fan of the series I know that some Resident Evil memorabilia can hold some value so something like this today, could be an eBay treasure in the future.

But what if you are a true fan, if you are in it for the long haul and ready to make a commitment? Then if you go to your bank and pull out $1,300 you can treat yourself to the Premium Edition. If the name wasn’t enticing enough then the contents will keep you interested. The main element of this item (so one assumes where most of the dollar value is) is the Replica of Leon Kennedy’s leather jacket that he sports in the game. There are a few other elements similar to the above items, but the jacket seems to be the focus.

I am a huge fan of the Resident Evil franchise. However, I would never justify that kind of money for an edition of a game. Some people will and have though, and I guess if I had enough disposable income I might have done it for a laugh.

These two packages seem to be rather overpriced. But this also says to me that Capcom are confident with what they have created here; they know they have made a game that will stand up to its predecessors. If nothing else, that gives me hope for the game. As I say, I have seen some really fantastic features, the co-op in Resident Evil 5 (although it had its fair share of flaws) was an amazing game play experience and I enjoyed it immensely. With the focus again being on partnerships, I hope for much the same with even more options and interactions. Mercenaries has also be a great addition to the franchise, showing that they are embracing the fact that the games are much more action and firepower based than before, but working into a mode where you are still always the underdog.

Resident Evil has been a constant winner in my books and it seems that they are not about to let me down. I look forward to what it has to offer, but I think I’ll have to brave next winter without my Replica leather jacket. Maybe I’ll have a Tall Oaks sweater instead.
